Helping to Ensure India Keeps Pace with Passenger and Cargo Growth
NEW DELHI, INDIA – Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded
a grant to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to support a feasibility study
for the implementation of the Jeppesen Total Airspace and Airport Modeler (TAAM)
system. The TAAM system was developed by Jeppesen Sanderson, Inc. (Englewood,
Colorado). The total feasibility study cost includes a $476,320 grant from USTDA
and $558,720 from Jeppesen Sanderson.
TAAM is a gate-to-gate simulator of airport and airspace operations that creates
4D models of the aviation facilities to facilitate decision-making, planning and
analysis. When implemented, TAAM will allow AAI to address airport
infrastructure and airspace utilization capacity constraints in India. As part
of the USTDA-sponsored feasibility study, a simulation will be conducted at
three airports in India and will train AAI staff to use TAAM simulation software
to support ongoing capacity improvement initiatives in India.
"This project supports AAI’s goal to optimize and enhance the use of its airport
infrastructure and airspace to address growing travel demand in the region,"
said USTDA Regional Director Henry Steingass. "TAAM implementation could provide
a future opportunity for U.S. equipment and technology providers to expand their
business at airports in India."
The feasibility study is a direct result of the long-term engagement between the
United States and India through the U.S.-India Aviation Cooperation Program
(ACP). The ACP was jointly established in 2007 by the U.S. aviation industry,
USTDA, and the Federal Aviation Administration and Indian aviation entities,
including the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India and the
Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The grant was signed by Margaret Hanson-Muse, Deputy Senior Commercial Officer
for the U.S. Department of Commerce, on behalf of USTDA, and by V. Somasundaram,
Member (Air Navigation Services) of AAI.
