Supports the Design of Two New Pilot Projects
to Demonstrate ITS Technologies
BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA – USTDA has awarded a grant
for technical assistance to support the
Colombian Ministry of Transport in its efforts
to develop a plan for the implementation of
intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The
technical assistance will include an analysis
of the applicability of various ITS
technologies in Colombia, including the
definition of two pilot programs to be selected
from a diverse set of potential ITS
applications.
"USTDA is pleased to assist Colombia's Ministry
of Transport with the adoption of ITS
technologies, which will reduce transportation
delays and congestion as well as lower
environmental impacts," said USTDA Regional
Director Nathan Younge.
The Colombian Ministry of Transport is
evaluating ITS technologies as a means of
increasing the effectiveness of its control and
management of Colombia's highway and transport
systems and to facilitate the introduction of a
congestion pricing policy in Bogotá and other
major cities. The Government of Colombia's
longer term objectives for the incorporation of
ITS technologies include improving highway
safety, increasing compliance with government
regulations, enhancing security, ensuring
revenue generation and making maximum use of
existing infrastructure. This assistance will
identify short- and medium-term milestones for
the acquisition and implementation of ITS
technology by the Ministry of Transport, major
cities, and public and private transport
operators.
The grant agreement follows a series of
complementary USTDA-organized reverse trade
missions designed to introduce delegates from
the region to ITS technologies.
The opportunity to conduct the USTDA-funded
technical assistance will be competed through
Federal Business Opportunities. A link to the
FBO announcement will be posted to USTDA's
website at www.ustda.gov. Interested U.S. firms
should submit proposals according to the
instructions in the FBO announcement.
