(USTDA) Enhances the Security of Romania's National Computer Security Incident Response Team

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – Earlier today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a grant to Centrul National de Raspuns la Incidente de Securitate Cibernetica (CERT-RO), Romania's national computer security incident response team, for a feasibility study to develop a cyber security innovation center in Romania.

"This project is a priority for the Ministry for Information Society and CERT-RO due to its potential to improve cyber security in Romania," said U.S. Chargé d'affaires Mr. Duane C. Butcher. "We are pleased to support the utilization of U.S. cyber security technologies to strengthen Romania's network."

The USTDA grant will allow CERT-RO to determine the economic, technical and financial feasibility of implementing a cyber security innovation center that can enable effective exploration and delivery of cyber security technologies to Romania's government, industry and citizens. The center will allow the assessment of proposed technologies to ensure appropriateness and effectiveness; cyber security education and training for public and private sector officials; identification of cyber security technology needs and updates for CERT-RO, as well as its customers and stakeholders; and matching identified upgrades with proposed technologies.

The project will be led by a team from General Dynamics Fidelis Cybersecurity Solutions, Inc. (Bethesda, MD), which will also share in the costs of the feasibility study.

The grant was signed at the Ministry for Information Society in Bucharest. Present at the grant signing were the Minister for Information Society, Mr. Alexandru Ra(zvan Cotovelea; Director General for CERT-RO, Mr. Augustin Jianu; U.S. Embassy Commercial Counselor, Mr. Jim Cunningham; and USTDA Country Manager, Mr. Scott Greenip.
