USTDA Connects U.S. Businesses to Smart Grid Opportunities in Panama

ARLINGTON, VA – The U.S. Trade and
Development Agency awarded a grant to
Panama’s National Energy Secretariat to
support the deployment of smart grid
technologies in the country. The grant will
help create a regulatory and investment
framework allowing Panama’s electric
utilities to improve electric reliability and
energy efficiency as the country diversifies
its energy matrix. This project will provide
potential export opportunities for a range of
U.S. smart grid solutions.
“USTDA is pleased to partner with Panama to
advance their smart grid development goals,”
said Nathan Younge, USTDA’s Regional Director
for Latin America and the Caribbean. “This
grant will support the wide-scale adoption of
distributed automation technologies, energy
management systems, and advanced metering
infrastructure in Panama, while creating
opportunities for U.S. equipment, technologies,
and services.”
The grant was signed by Panama’s Minister of
the Presidency Álvaro Alemán and by USTDA’s
Acting Director Thomas R. Hardy.
U.S. businesses interested in submitting
proposals for this USTDA-funded technical
assistance should visit the Federal Business
Opportunities (FBO) website at www.fbo.gov. A link to the

Proposals are due to the National Energy
Secretariat no later than 2:00 PM (Panama City
local time) on November 15, 2017.
